THE SCENARIO COMES FIRST

Understand the case.
Know how to answer.

Start with a clinical scenario you’re given. Find the important clues, reason towards a diagnosis and work through the investigation and management questions that follow.

01

Read the scenario

Start with a clinical case you’re given. Pick out the important clues in the presentation, history and findings.

02

Reason to the diagnosis

Connect those clues. Work out the most likely diagnosis and understand how to explain your reasoning.

03

Answer what follows

Tackle the investigation and management questions. Turn to the textbook for relevant pathophysiology and background science where you need it.

THE TEXTBOOK HAS A PURPOSE

Read the science
when you need it.

The plan is to show how an answer is reached: which details in the scenario matter, how they support a diagnosis and how to structure the answers about investigations and management.

When a finding or decision needs explaining, that is the point to consult the textbook. Read the relevant pathophysiology, anatomy or other background science, then return to the case with a clearer understanding.

Resources will be organised by subject, then specialty or subsubject, then topic. Within each topic, worked scenarios and how-to-answer guidance will bring the reasoning together.
